When I went to see Mamma Mia’s farewell tour, I had low expectations. The plot of the much-loved jukebox musical, comprised of songs from the Swedish girl band Abba, seemed a little cheesy. Somehow, a story centering around a bride who invites three of her mother’s ex-lovers to her wedding didn’t seem like it would be all that entertaining to me. I could not have been more wrong.

The Bodyguard started with a BANG- and it only got more dramatic from there. Hit-or-miss vocals and a series of incredibly loud noises followed by a series of incredibly slow (and sad) love songs came together in the show that may or may not be one of the reasons that “theatre” is also referred to as “drama.”
