"Sounds like this show was a healing experience for you.  Perhaps even renewed your faith in Musical Theatre?  Or encourage you to have faith in the form?  Or at least optimism for what else will get trucked through Minneapolis?…"

Ni on Impossible to Resist: Spamalot

I really don’t like it when a great show has a short run. When a stellar production is limited to two nights, I die a little bit inside. It makes sense, because Spamalot’s main audience last Friday was composed of a lot of middle aged dudes in smoky leather jackets-also known as concert attendees-who are probably more used to one night shows than month long residences. But for someone who gets to…See More

"You acknowledge that it is unusual for you to write a glowing review, and yet your humorously skeptical voice still shines here. Very interesting call for the reader to imagine the revival of this show 30 years from now. It made me wonder about…"

"First of all, check out Peter and the Starcatcher, which just closed on Broadway and is coming as part of our season next year.  I think it stands out.  But not as satire.   Love the paragraph about South Park and expectations.…"

Erica Solomon commented on Justice Craig Harrison's blog post Aida: Great Production, Same Old Elton John
"I'm glad that you provided details about "Broadway Re-Imagined" and Theater Latte Da. For the most part, you give good examples and make good outside comparisons to back up what you're saying, and write with a sharp, yet often…"

Aida: Great Production, Same Old Elton John

Elton John has worked on 5 musicals in the past two decades (according to IBDB!), two of which are much better than Aida. Aida felt like The Lion King for adults; meaning sex and skirts. The production was wonderful, and the Pantages felt very well suited for the show; but I felt like I had heard the songs before, seen the setting. Great production for a mediocre show. Though, in listening to the soundtrack again, I feel like it…See More

"My thoughts in two parts. Part 1) You do a good job (here) of letting B&B be what it is:  Disney, known, beloved, average material.  You  leave room for it to be good for some without betraying your own experience (or that of many…"

Don't Spend Your "Money, Money, Money" On This Mamma Mia Production

I was eating a Chipotle burrito before Mamma Mia. My friends and I had been hanging out at Peavey Plaza, and then went to Chipotle to eat before the show. We split two burrito bowls (and Chipotle always tastes like sweet relief when I haven’t eaten it in a while) and I was so hungry I decided to get a burrito after that. Then my digital watch impersonally said (while doing the Stanley Kubrick stare) “6:55leave,”…See More

"Rise Up!  Right on.  OCCUPY MAMMA MIA?  Demand that this madness stop.  Because in the end it's all about the money.  And the greed.  Who's laughing now?"
