I Whistle a Happy Tune at the King and I

The King and I is a delightful classic to return to to escape into a different world. Based off of the book, Anna and the King of Siam, by Margaret Landon, it first premiered in 1951. It was written by the duo Rodgers and Hammerstein who were known for their elaborate performances and sets. It was made into a movie in 1956 and has become a classic. What happens when you take a Greek island, a big wedding, a mother, her hilarious friends, a daughter, and three potential fathers? I’ll give you a hint. It’s Mamma Mia! Mamma Mia debuted is a musical that incorporated ABBA songs into a playful plot. The musical was composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and the written by Catherine Johnson. The house lights were on, a gun went off, and the lights went out. Imagine a night following another’s memories. Now imagine a night filled with laughter, seriousness, and sadness. Combine the two together and you get Fun Home. Fun Home is a graphic memoir, written by Alison Bechdel, which was adapted into a musical production.
