Growing up in an I love Lucy watching family, I was very excited to be offered the opportunity to see it live on stage at the State Theater in Minneapolis. Thousands of questions ran through my head. Questions such as “Will Lucy still be funny? Will Ricardo’s accent be done properly? How are they doing this on stage?” and “Wait, it’s a musical?” all ran through my head.

On Tuesday night at the state theater, the stage was transformed into a television set straight out of the 1950’s. I Love Lucy Live on Stage takes you into the studio as the live studio audience, where I Love Lucy was filmed. The host (Mark Christopher Tracy) takes you through the filming, which features amusing sing-songy commercials and a trivia game between episodes. The episodes include “The Benefit” and “Lucy Gets Her Eyes Examined,” both of which were joyous and fun.
