This Little Show... Was a Miracle!

Captivating story met with equally engaging choreography! The show Matilda is based on the immortal children’s book by Roald Dahl, where a child prodigy discovers her own telekinetic abilities as she navigates the horrors of her horrible school and neglectful parents. This production of Matilda, the show that has broken the record for most Olivier Awards won by a musical, had an eye-popping aesthetic that carried the audience back to the place where the original story was published: Great… Continue

A Childlike Wonder in Matilda the Musical by Meghan Katers

Matilda is one of the best musicals of all times, and this production was to exception. They may as well as called it "Matilda the magnificent". Showing it at the Orpheum theatre in Minnesota March 28th, it was the performance of a life time. That is not to say it was without flaw, but nothing every really is. This charming story of a bookworm little girl named Matilda overcoming adversity is both heartwarming and inspiring. This is a must see musical.…

This Show Was Defying Gravity

Zoe Redfern-Hall

Wicked has come back to the Twin Cities, and we want more. Wicked, a broadway hit most known for its smash hit “Defying Gravity” is back in the twin cities for its fifth time. Created in 2003, it was a hit from the moment it hit the stage. With lead singers Jessica Vosk and Ginna Claire Mason in this production by Universal Stage Productions and the Araca Group, I want to go back and watch it…

Popular for sure

We’re off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. There sits the emerald city infront of us, one of the settings for the long-loved family movie The Wizard of Oz. Its glittering and glimmering, enticing us for the show we came to see. Wicked, a musical set in the fantastical city of Oz tells us the previously untold story of not only the Wicked Witch of the West, but Glinda”(Ginna Claire Mason), the…

Well.. It's POPULAR Alright

Well..It’s Popular Alright

Paint the town in green! Everyone who has at least some idea of theater loves Wicked. And I sit here, feeling like a hipster, wanting not to like it because of its constant touring and overplayed songs, and yet still find myself on the edge of my seat covered in goosebumps during “Defying Gravity”. I sit and gawk as the flying monkeys tumble across the stage…

No One Mourns Seeing Wicked

This Thursday the Wicked tour graced the Orpheum with its classic show, but classic is really the least of it. Bold singing and pit choices practically reinvented the show making those who listen to the original production shocked. The whole musical is about Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West and her untold story. Told through famous musical numbers and a brillant-ious friendship the audience is taken to…

Good News, Wicked Flies to the Orpheum

Good news, Wicked flies back to Minneapolis for four weeks! Playing at the Orpheum, Theatre in Minneapolis from 4/12-5/14, the positively popular production of the untold story of the witches of Oz is sure to be a hit with audiences of all ages. As someone who knows every set and costume change in the show, I was far from disappointed with my third time seeing the show. The current touring cast gives a new youth and energy to a story that has been…

Popular... And Rightfully So

Look, before seeing Wicked, I thought it must be somewhat overhyped. Practically theatre blasphemy, I know, but, in my defense, the bar was set pretty high. Soon after the curtain rose at the Orpheum theatre I realized just how wrong I was. Wicked…

This Show is Wicked!

For many, Wicked is a household name in the world of musical theater and rightfully so. Wicked first opened its doors in 2003, and the original Broadway cast, which starred Idina Menzel (Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda) won 3 Tony Awards, 6 Drama Desk Awards, and 4 Outer Critics Circle Awards. Now it is back and better than ever with the second National tour starring, Ginna Claire Mason (Glinda) and Jessica Vosk…

It's Wonderfully Wicked in Oz

Wicked is known among most theatre goers as one of the most successful and iconic musicals of this century. This spectacle tells the untold tale of the wicked witch of the west, Elphaba, and serves as both prequel and sequel to the classic, American film The Wizard of Oz. However, this musical switches things around and suggests that Elphaba might not be as wicked as she seems.

The most engaging piece of…

Wicked - two sides to every story.

Wicked - two sides to every story.

Emma Meents

The story of Dorothy And The Wizard Of Oz is very well known. Everyone knows of Glenda the good witch and The Wicked Witch Of The West, but does anyone really know these characters?  Going into Wicked, I didn’t know anything about the storyline other than it was based off The Wizard Of Oz. After seeing Wicked, I now have learned that…

Changed For Good

As Broadway’s third highest grossing musical, and ninth longest running show, there was an incredible amount of expectation at the Orpheum Theater as the audience awaited the opening number of Wicked. Since its premier in 2003, the show has received rave reviews along with three Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, and a Grammy for Best Musical Album, and by the final curtain call, I understood why. Every aspect of the show seemed to mesh together…

They Call it Wonderful, and Rightfully So

The famous tale of an underdog taking a stand for what is right is a classic tale told by many movies and musicals. Audiences cannot get enough of stories that end in happy endings. This well-known path however, was rerouted in one of Braodway’s most popular musicals, Wicked. Wicked, directed by Joe Mantello, follows the tale of Elphaba, more famously known as The Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good and their…

What Is This Feeling? Amazement.

For over 10 years, Wicked has been a smash hit on Broadway. On April 12th, the touring production opened in Minneapolis for a month-long run. Of course, because of its relevance and importance in the theatre world, Wicked has a reputation to live up to. The performance on April 13th more than lived up to it. This production smashed my expectations.  I went in anticipating an amazing performance…

Wicked, a show I've heard called a theatrical phenomenon. Once again, I walked into the Orpheum with no knowledge of the show I was about to see besides the name of one of the songs and the 90% certainty that it was about the Wicked Witch of the West (I did not know, however, that her name was Elphaba until I had been thoroughly confused for some time). Even though I knew so little about Wicked going in, I have heard for years that it is a great show with great music. All it took was the… Continue

Defying the Stereotype

I didn’t want to like Wicked. I really didn’t. Those theatre kids who love Wicked are always grouped together as a stereotype that I did not want to be associated. However, I now know why Wicked is spoken so highly of. Every aspect of the production flowed together to create something powerful and beautiful. Having never seen the show before, I was expecting a cookie-cutter-copy of what I’ve heard…

I must say, I've been impressed with a lot of shows, but Broadway’s Wicked was by far the best I have ever seen.  I didn't know much about the show beforehand, but, by the end of the first act, I was obsessed.  My life will never be the same, and, I do believe, “I was changed for the good”.

I love the casting for this show.  Everyone in the cast fit their roles perfectly and it…

Gravity Defied

What does being ‘good’ truly mean? Wicked, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, tells the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, of The Wizard of Oz fame, came to be. This production visits the Orpheum April 12 - May 14, 2017 and showcases marvels of acting talent and set design, along with telling a thought provoking message.

The performance was memorable because of the cast’s fine character development especially Elphaba (played by Jessica…

A Wickedly Wonderful Production

From the beloved classic film, Wizard Of Oz which premiered in 1939 to the novel, Wicked by Gregory Maguire which released in 1995, and finally the 2003 Broadway hit Wicked which has won 3 Tony Awards, 6 Drama Desk Awards, and 1 Grammy Award, it makes you wonder, why is Wicked so popular?

Wicked is the story of two frenemies struggling to make their way…
