Dirty Dancing At the Orpheum Theatre Is Not Nostalgic Enough

The 80’s cult classic Dirty Dancing is now on stage at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, October 7th – 19th. Like all other 80s dance movies turned musical, it is campy, poorly written, and heaven for middle aged women.

I had the Time of My Life…Most of the Time

Swift-footed and ready to mambo, Dirty Dancing is a spectacle to behold.  Based on the famous film from 1987, this show brings a beloved classic to the stage of the Orpheum Theatre.  This show depicts the relationship of Johnny Castle and Frances “Baby” Houseman.  They meet at Kellerman’s Mountain House, a resort at which Baby’s family is vacationing.  The unthinkable becomes a reality when Penny, Johnny’s…

An interesting add on to the stage version of Dirty Dancing is how they looked at social issues of the time even though the story is set in a seemingly happy place. This show relied heavily not just on the cast’s talent, but also on the show’s set and special effects, which didn’t cause complaints…

An Evening With Boz Scaggs

An Evening With the Backup Band (featuring Boz Scaggs)

There is a reason nobody knew about this concert. Boz Scaggs played a concert at the State Theatre in Minneapolis on September 30. A series of rock ballads and timid singing made for a sleepy date night. If you are a fan, you will love it! As a person who just found out he exists, you will not want to stay. It’s all about appreciating his past. A double encore would not have…
