A Beautiful Name for a Beautiful Show

Beautiful- The Carole King Musical

Before I saw Beautiful- The Carole King Musical, I wasn’t convinced that it would end up being one of my favorite musicals, but after witnessing it, I realized just how wrong I was. Beautiful, which ran at the Orpheum Theatre from November 18th to November 29th, tells the…

Beautiful Review

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the Theater was the grand piano. To me a grand piano means talent and joy so I then knew this musical would be full of that. The fist scene was Carole King with beautiful hair and singing the opening song. It was simply amazing. Then show went on and Carol was following her dream but the whole time she completely changed, different hairstyle and outfit. I was confused if they were the same person to later find out that it was the new Carol…

A "Beautiful" Irony

The show, Beautiful: A Carole King Musical, was all about Carole King, a renowned musician and writer, yet, ironically, the play struggled with musicality and scene writing. Although there were some facets of the this musical worth witnessing, like the ensemble’s performances and the hilarious one-liners, this was an underwhelming show on the whole.

Musically, this show was mediocre to okay-plus. the choral ensemble’s work on their feature performances deserves some recognition; their… Continue

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, begins with a catchy overture, then transitions to Carnegie Hall, 1971, with Carole King playing piano and singing "So Far Away”. The rest of the show is a flashback to how she became Carole King as we know her today. Her story begins at sixteen, when she is begging her mother to let her go try to sell her song (“It Might as Well Rain Until September”) to Don Kirshner. While at 1650 Broadway, Carole meets Gerry, who will become…

Beautiful Beautiful

Beautiful the Carol King Musical lights up the Orpheum theater, with a broadway telling of the life of the beloved song writer, and performer Carol King. This show draws a crowd of women in their 50s and 60s who have perhaps attended one too many Carol King concerts. The approval from the audience is over whelming, showing that this broadway telling wasn’t too over the top.

Beautiful is kept very honest and true to the time by showing different small group performances, but…

"Beautiful" Hits All the Right Notes

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, manages to stay nostalgic yet modern, attesting to just how timeless King’s music is; just ask the middle aged women dancing in their seats and the teenagers slyly bopping their heads. Based on the life of the legendary Carole…

We Will Love Her Tomorrow, and Every Day After

Of all the people to write a Broadway musical about, why Carole King? Why does she deserve a Tony Award-winning hit show? Once you see Beautiful: The Carole King musical, you will understand. It is currently playing at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis through November 29. It stars Abby Mueller in the title role, achieving success in portraying Carole King in her own style while…

"Beautiful: The Carole King Musical", was just what you'd expect it to be: beautiful. The show opened on a solitary piano in the middle of a glowing spotlight, and Abby Mueller (Carole King) walked onto the stage in an evening gown. It was a fantastic start to an incredible show. The Orpheum was lit up for opening night, and gray-haired but bright eyed people streamed into the theatre. The show, directed by Marc Bruni, walks you through the trying life of Carole Klein (King is her stage name)… Continue

Beautiful: The only possible title for such a beautiful show

Singer/songwriter and musical icon Carole King helped shape the music scene of the 60’s and 70’s, and her story as well as her music continue to bring inspiration with the new show, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. This biographical musical uses King’s own songs and other songs from the era to tell her story. The show opened on Broadway in January of 2014 starring Jessie Mueller as Carole King. The national tour came to Minneapolis Wednesday night…

"What Can You Say in Three Minutes?"

“What can you say in three minutes or less?” Gerry Goffin would ask. The answer is many things, but one hundred and eighty seconds is not enough time to describe every reason why Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is so worth seeing. Directed by Marc Bruni, the musical synopsis of the groundbreaking Carole King’s life is an energetic performance bound to thaw anyone’s heart. A truly beautiful musical

Review: Beautiful, The Carole King Musical

By Emma Meents

When Beautiful, The Carole King Musical begins, we are introduced to its central character, Carole King right away. She is a solitary figure filling the space center stage with her larger-than-life presence, accompanied only by a piano and a microphone. It’s a powerful message: We are about to get to know this woman and her story very well, and it’s our first glimpse at the heart of a musical journey ready to captivate… Continue

Carole King? More Like Carole Queen

Currently running at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis, Beautiful, The Carole King Musical has an intangible authenticity to it that takes the work and life story of the most influential female songwriter of all time and creates an emotional masterpiece. The musical is far more than a medley of King’s greatest hits, but an inspiring story of overcoming the odds, a message that transcends generations. The libretto for Beautiful is a mixture of Carole King’s earliest…

Some Kind of Wonderful

The much anticipated Broadway production Beautiful - The Carole King Musical opened to a full house at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday, November 18th.  I enjoyed the vibrant, lively production of the rise to stardom of legendary songwriter and performer, Carole King.  Far from an easy road to fame and fortune, Beautiful beautifully presents the highs and lows of King’s life in a radiant, hilarious, and heartfelt show.

"Beautiful" is Beautiful!

On Wednesday night, I had the pleasure of going to see the opening night performance of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at the Orpheum Theatre. Before learning about the show, I had never heard of Carole King before. Her songs had never come under my radar and I knew nothing about her life story. However, after watching the show, I can honestly say that I know I’ve been missing out. The show is a wonderful representation of her legacy and made me want…

The Beautiful Story of Carole King

Carole King: one of the most iconic singer/songwriters of the 1960’s. Born with the last name of Klein, Carole took the stage name of King for a larger stage presence. Even if she hadn’t changed her name, King would’ve still had the major influence on rock and roll music as we know it today. With her interesting life story, she definitely deserves a musical in her honor. The Orpheum had a different feeling than I have come to know on Wednesday night. The crowd seemed…
