Phantom is Phantastic

“Phantom of the Opera”

“Phantom of the Opera” was fabulously done.  Everything from the actors to the set was appealing to the eye and fun to watch.  It seemed the audience was enthralled the entire time because of the spectacular show.  If you want to catch it before it leaves town, it is showing at the Orpheum Theatre December 13th – January 5th.  The story takes place in an opera house in Paris that is haunted by a mysterious…

We Will Rock You?

By: Ryan Lenard

Having never heard of the musical We Will Rock You before the performance, I was very pleased to hear that the story included music from the British rock band Queen! The musical is focused on a futuristic world in which a group of Bohemians struggle to bring back the free exchange of thought, style, and music while everyone else dresses, acts and thinks the same exact…

"We Will Rock You" Review

We Will Rock You

They Will Rock You

What an engaging experience! We Will Rock You is a Broadway musical showcasing the songs of the classic rock band, Queen. I saw it at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. Set in a futuristic earth, a couple of rebels fall in love and join “Bohemians” whose mission is to bring rock and roll back into the “iPlanet.” The show got funnier and funnier as it went along. It had a predictable ending which wasn’t very exciting.… Continue

Let Us Rock

We Will Rock You is a surprising and loud show. Flashing lights and blasting speakers create an old rock concert feel. We Will Rock You is on its first national tour and is being preformed at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis until the 22 of November.  This show has a plot full of adventure, along with a romantic story and an apocalypse theme.

In this show a young man has dreams of old songs drifting in his head. These…

"We Will Rock You" Rocks The Orpheum

The Orpheum Theatre is hosting the Broadway national tour of “We Will Rock You” November 21st through the 24th.  The show is highly entertaining and defiantly the show to see.

The show takes place in the future and revolves around a boy and girl that team up with a band of rebels who shares their same dream, to bring rock and roll back!  Brian…

A Comparative Essay On We Will Rock You and the Average Middle School Play

If you think a musical comprised of hit 70s songs does not sound comparable to the fine art that is middle school theatrics, you would be wrong. We Will Rock You and stereotypical middle school plays and musicals have a lot in common. Like, a lot a lot.

The first thing you can expect at any middle school performance is to get a lot of cheap jokes. Though the jokes in We Will Rock You were certainly more sexualized in nature, it was very much the…

Audio and Dance: the perfect combination

Today’s review comes to you in 3 acts. Act one, dance and radio: two creative acts that should not go together but totally work. Act two, three spectacular performers in three very different acts onstage. And finally, act three, how interactive technical aspects elevated the experience just that much more.

We start in act one.

Dance and…

Testing For George

Hi everybody! I am testing right now! I go to EPHS as a freshman and my favorite show of 2013 was Les Miserables at the Ordway.

CARRIE: An Open Letter From a Disgruntled Artistic Intern

**TRIGGER WARNING BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD SO MUCH BLOOD**

Hi ya’ll, so as you know, I am from the South. I love all kinds of coke, and saying ya’ll. I also want to be an artistic director for musicals on Broadway. I have a lot of opinions.

But we all have to start somewhere and I’m starting here. I’m starting as the Intern in the Artistic department with MMT. Minneapolis Musical Theater was super cool to hire…

The Absolutely True Diary of an Elphaba Standby (The Worst Job on Broadway)

Hey all, welcome to my blog, where I talk about all things WICKED. Well, it's been a loooooong tour, and I still haven't gone onstage ONCE.

What's that? You don't even know who I am? I'm Zoe Makila. And I'm an Elphaba standby.

What does that mean? Well. It means I have to be in full costume, hair, and makeup every show just in case Alison Luff throws up, or breaks her arm in the middle of the show. I'm not an understudy, I don't get to go on if we know she won't be…

Marry Poppins Review

Should I do it? Should I go for the cliché?? I'm gonna do it!!! This show was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

As the scrim with MARRY POPPINS scrolls up at the top of the show, a dreary, black and white set is revealed. Don’t let this fool you, Mary Poppins is a colorful, amazing treat.

First, I have to talk about the set. It was amazing. The use of perspective allowed the stage to appear so much larger than it actually is. For example, the kitchen set had all of the shelves appear on a slant, creating the illusion of a vanishing point and allowing the set…

Aziz Ansari, or as I like to call him, Azzizle Anzizzle

Warning: This review contains a bit of adult language

Eight rows from the front at a comedy show...I feel so grown up! There are attractive 20-somethings drinking beer out of plastic bottles, and menacing security personnel all over the place. I'm close enough to…

I'm a "Maniac" in this review because I have a lot of mean things to say!

The tagline for Flashdance reads "One girl. One dream. One chance." A very accurate slogan previews the story right on the cover of the playbill. It's also a very cliché way to sum up a very cliché musical. Flashdance is incredibly predictable. I had the second act figured out within the first 30 minutes of the first. There is no such thing as subtle foreshadowing in the world of Flashdance

Cliché shows are forgivable. To a point. Unfortunately…

It's Kind of What God Was Going For....

Andrew Rannells, Josh Gad, Rory O'Malley, Nikki M. James, and nine Tony awards….this tour had a lot to own up to. The original broadway cast put on such a stunning performance and generated a lot of publicity. With such defined roles and a widely known ideal of each character, it's hard to make a show your own.

Yet somehow, they did it. Mark Evans and Christopher John O'Neill rocked the house with their own depictions of Elders Price and…
