Re:Generation Music Project is a Movie You Shouldn't Miss

I've found something I have little to no problems with.

I know. It's shocking.

I'll let you recover. But to help you with that:

Skrillex looks ever so slightly like Tommy Wiseau.

Re: Generation Music Project is a documentary that takes 5 DJs/Producers, and matches them up with musicians from different generations and genres. So people like Skrillex and The Doors make music, and you get to see and listen to them converse, as well as hear the end product (and download it for free). And as a musician who loves everything from Beethoven to Nirvana to James Blake, as well as most things in between, you can probably see why I like it so much.

And as a plus, it's a well constructed documentary by itself. There are no incredibly serious narrators, or tension injected into places where it's more laughable than anything. Not to say I didn't find myself laughing, because the real life characters have some amazing interactions. (Pretty Lights wins the Awkward Award. He referred to Dr. Raplh Stanley [A country musician...and doctor?] as "gangster" {but he was pretty gangster})

And the music is good. It's better when you're watching it for sure (Some songs sound kind of rushed, and the verses aren't always that great. They have Mos Def on a song...and he doesn't rap. :l ), but listening to it now, it still sounds great. And I know most of the collaborations by the non-DJ's; So Martha Reeves, Trombone Shorty, members of the Dap Kings, The Doors, and so on were the biggest draw for me. You don't need to be up on the electronica scene to get a lot of value from this movie.

Re:Generation is an awesome movie for many reasons. But the star power and talented included in it (without being tacky) is probably it's best quality. I'd recommend it to anyone who has even the faintest of interest of music, and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in music production and performance. It's only showing on February 23rd, but this seems like the kind of movie which will find it's way to Hulu, Netflix, or any other streaming site.

The website has a nice map so you can find where it's playing, when it's playing, and all that good stuff. You can also download the soundtrack from the second link below. Which I would recommend. Some of the remixes are actually better than the originals.
